Hornblowers Farewell

Thomas Berhoff wrote "Hornblowers Farewell" after visiting a film that focused on the lives of soldiers, friendship, loyalty and comradeship. Imagine the touching moment when the trumpeter blows the taps in the final scene of the film - a signal to say goodbye.

The military ceremony of the tattoo is recorded in this piece. A triolic rhythm on the small drum forms the basis of the piece. The theme is played in the solo trumpet and is guided by the other instruments. The trumpet plays fanfare-like interjections over this main melody. A religious-looking intermediate part conveys a special sublimity and with the solo trumpet "Hornblowers Farewell" finally ends.

The smallest size (S) for "Basic Sound" consists of the following instruments: a flute, two clarinets, an alto saxophone, two trumpets, a trombone, a baritone/euphonium, a tuba and percussion. Each issue also contains an extensive voice set (XXL). Thus, the works of the "Basic Sound" series can be individually adapted to the respective orchestra instrumentation.
