Choir Library III

The third volume of Breitkopf & Härtel Choir Library for mixed choir – Sacred Repertoire continues the church year with the overall ninth section which covers the time from Trinity Sunday to Thanksgiving, including feasts such as Assumption Day. It is followed by the Protestant Reformation Day with two motets on the Lutheran chorale “Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott”, among others.

The largest part of the volume is taken up by the section on Eternity Sunday as all compositions on the subject of death and eternity are gathered here. Music for the funeral, however, can be found under Church-Related Occasions in the twelfth chapter. The feasts of consecration, confirmation and marriage are likewise covered here. Represented composers range from Palestrina and Monteverdi via Brahms and Reger to Johann Nepomuk David, Kurt Thomas and Günter Raphael.
